Life has gotten pretty crazy over the last couple of months. Sure, there’s the usual chaos of the Holidays, but I can’t blame the crazyness on that because we all know about it well in advance and usually plan for it fairly well.

The craziness has been brought about by some great projects I’m involved in, including:

  • Working on a book,
  • Having a fun new role,
  • Feeding a continued voracious appetite for books, and
  • Taking on a greater number of speaking engagements.

All this while running a small business, which I've been doing for years now.

And craziness has its consequences.

The structure of the academic sabbatical is often for these professionals to take such a leave every seventh year*, with both the word and its frequency having roots with the word "sabbath". 

These rejuvenation periods are a unique opportunity to take a step back from the daily grind. Universities understood the benefit for an individual to have a chance to think, discover and experience a different perspective. After all, they employed thinking professionals.

A Lesson On Time From The West Coast

Mr. F2P and I spent a wonderful four days in Vancouver this Labour Day weekend. It was our first vacation together since 2011 that didn’t involve attending some sort of conference or training workshop. A long time, I know! However, this is not the only surprising fact from this latest trip.

What I took away from this vacation was much more than pictures and memories. It also offered a good reminder that how we view and use time affects how we experience life.
