Where the Heck Have I Been?
/...And Why You Can Now See a Whole Lot More of Me!
It feels like a long time since I've put virtual pen to paper on Free to Pursue. And it has been.
My last post was May 31st and it was a book review. My last personal musings were on May 23rd (and they were a precursor to this very blog post). In short, it's been a two-month absence and it feels like a substantial amount of time.
What have I been up to? Certainly not resting on my laurels! I’ve been reading, filming, editing, and most importantly, learning. A LOT.
I get that way sometimes. I unplug from anything that isn’t mission critical, and I learn. I experiment. I try new things. I fail, dust myself off and try again. And I’m rarely disappointed when I embark on one of these new projects.
I first introduced this latest wandering into uncharted territories (uncharted for me that is) by telling you about my fear of jumping into it to begin with.
But now, I’m neck deep and loving it.
I’m filming and editing YouTube videos for two channels, one of which is in support of this very blog. The other one is related to something vastly different: exploring my creativity through makeup (aka face paint).
Yeah, I know. The two worlds couldn’t possibly be any more different. The "face paint" channel is what I call my "learning channel" as I'm less concerned about trying something new and I don't feel I need to look or behave a certain way (aka polished and professional—and somewhat predictable—at all times) in these videos. I pay far more attention to how I present myself on Free to Pursue because I feel it better suits the content.
That said, they have more in common than one might think. I’ve produced well over 100 videos on the two channels so far and I have learned SO much in the process. I’ll admit that most of my early videos—ok, and many of my more recent ones too :)—make me wince from time to time, but the occasional discomfort is more than overshadowed by how thrilled I am to be reach others in this new way.
Video is such a powerful means of connecting with others in a way that the written word can’t do. And, with most of us having access to a video-recording device 24hrs a day now—thanks in large part to the nearly-ubiquitous smartphone—it’s no wonder a growing number of us are choosing to connect “one-to-many” via video.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m still a blogging and reading enthusiast. And I also think that every medium has its place. Video is definitely a good complement to the written word and can even lead us to discover more valuable resources we weren’t aware of (just as TED Talks might entice us to read some of a given speaker’s thoughts to learn more about what they presented on the TED stage).
I have a number of videos waiting in the wings and youèll see them appear steadily on the Free to Pursue YouTube channel. I say on the "YouTube channel" because on this blog, at least in the short term, they have been complementing book reviews that have already been published, which means there has been no automatic notification to let you know I've added new content.
If you want to see what's been released so far, you're in luck. I've added the videos below, from most to least recent. I'm also adding a new "YouTube" link on this site's header where you can easily access the new channel.
I look forward to hearing what you think and to creating more content for you, both in writing and on video, in line with what you’ve come to expect from this blog.
There’s never a shortage of thoughts to share and I’m itching to take Free to Pursue content to a new level.
